About this Site

The subject of pilgrimage in India is both expansive and detailed. I have been able to present only a cursory introduction to both my work as a photographer and to the subject. Nevertheless, the intention of this site is to create a series of complementary narratives that will inform the viewer, through both images and words, about India. The photographs, travel essays, and geographic notes are presented as mutually independent. In the future I will be adding additional sections including a series of mythological stories explaining the origins of many of the "tirthas" described here.

I hope you find this site interesting and useful. Please write me with your comments. Thanks, Adam Clayman.

Acknowledgments

I'd like to take the opportunity to thank my friend and teacher Dr. Thomas Coburn for introducing to me the study of India. Secondly, my travels in India have been enriched and influenced by the fascinating books of Dr. Diana Eck. I am greatly in her debt.
